ROBIN: Jake Fedus and Corey McCabe called Wednesday to report they saw a robin in Elk County.
They had just spotted it when they called.
Has anyone else seen any robins lately? Maybe someone could tell us why the robin returned north so early? Maybe it never left for winter.
SNOW: While we’ve been dealing with extreme temperatures here in Bradford, Erie residents have been staying inside for a different reason: several feet of snow has dropped on them in recent weeks.
We knew Erie was hit hard with snow, but we didn’t realize quite how much.
The Erie News reported that 122.4 inches — or 10 feet 2.4 inches! — fell at the Erie International Airport from Dec. 1 through New Year’s Day.
We’re glad we didn’t have to shovel that out of a driveway in December.
EAGLE CAM: Residents will again be able to watch the majestic national bird from the comfort of the home.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced that its Eagle Cam is back online. The camera offers round-the-clock live video and audio footage of a bald eagle nest in Hanover near Codorus State Park.
The Game Commission partners with HDOnTap, Comcast Business and Codorus State Park on the project.
The Game Commission is excited to be able to have the two cameras in the same tree as last year, as the agency wasn’t sure if it would be possible.
“While the 2017 run of the Eagle Cam at the same tree was successful, with two eaglets hatching in March and taking their first flights in June, there was some question whether the Eagle Cam would be back at the same tree in 2018,” the Game Commission stated.
“The nest, which had partially collapsed and was rebuilt ahead of the 2017 nesting season, collapsed further since the Eagle Cam last was online. But once again, the adult eagles using the nest tree have rebuilt the nest, and appear to have it ready for another go in the coming months.”
