The Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center will present the third program in its seven-part chamber music series at 7 p.m. Jan. 17.
This month’s performance will feature the talents of five regional educators who make up the wind ensemble Quintessential.
The program, “A Night of Dances,” will feature traditional dance compositions including the jig, waltz, bolero, tango, polka and three shanties for wind quintet. Composers include Malcolm Arnold, Justin Harden, Denes Agay and Dmitri Shostakovich, among others.
“Each of these chamber concerts has featured a very different repertoire,” said museum manager Matthew Hileman. “I’m delighted that we’re able to educate and entertain audiences at the same time by offering a variety of musical styles and instruments.”
Quintessential is a wind quintet comprised of a talented group of women, each of whom teaches in a public school in Cattaraugus or Chautauqua (New York) counties.
Nicole Zenns (flute) maintains an active performance schedule in addition to being an instrumental music teacher with Cassadaga Valley Central School District.
Chryste Mallory (clarinet) is a music educator with the Lancaster Central School District and has worked as an adjunct professor at State University of New York in Fredonia.
Mona Lungershausen (oboe) is in her fourth year of teaching at Salamanca City Central School, and Kasey Way (bassoon) has been teaching at Bemus Point Elementary School for twelve years.
Dana Bennett, who organized the January performance, is also a music teacher in the Cassadaga Valley Central School District. In addition to being a professional French horn player, she is also a Highland bagpiper.
