PORT ALLEGANY — Five members of Port Allegany Borough council were sworn in at Tuesday’s meeting.
Mayor George Riley administered the oath of office to Andrew Johnson, Richard Kallenborn, Sam Dynda, Dave Fair and Mary Lashway.
Johnson was elected as council president and Sam Dynda was elected as vice president. Robert Veilleux, Beth Pifer, and Nicole Larsen were all re-elected to their positions — borough manager/treasurer, secretary, and solicitor respectively.
For the regular part of the meeting, Veilleux reported the borough has been denied the ability to sell water to JKLM. The Department of Environmental Protection stated that the borough needs to update its Drought Contingency Plan and that its water loss, which exceeds 50 percent, is too high. Veilleux has begun to discuss the issue with Uni-Tec and has found that the borough may be able to submit a corrective action plan to DEP, which would possibly allow the borough to start selling water in the first quarter of 2018.
The borough also approved the usage of the community skating rink that Kallenborn has donated materials towards its creation.
The borough will meet for its monthly meeting on Feb. 5.
