SMETHPORT — Meeting in a special session Friday, the McKean County Commissioners unanimously adopted the 2018 budget that amounts to $37,896,693.91 and holds the line on real estate and per capita taxes.
For the new year, the real estate tax levy will remain at 11.25 mills for every dollar of assessed valuation, while the $5 per capita tax will stay unchanged for all persons subject to taxation for county purposes.
“Among the increases in the budget,” according to Commission Chairman Al Pingie, “are the contractual agreements with union employees and $120,000 for updating the assessment software.”
Prior to its final adoption, the proposed budget was displayed for 20 days at the county clerk’s section of the courthouse and on the county’s website.
Commissioner Cliff Lane participated in the meeting via a telephone connection.
