WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson on Thursday voted in favor of a Fiscal Year 2018 continuing resolution, which funds the federal government at current levels and extends funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), as well as community health centers through March 31, 2018.
Under current law, federal funding will run out Friday night at midnight, unless Congress passes legislation. The House approved the bill by a vote of 231 to 188. The short-term measure funds government operations until January 19, 2018.
Thompson issued the following statement: “This funding measure supports critical activities through early next year. Importantly, the bill supports the Department of Defense, as well it extends essential programs such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program, known as CHIP, and our community health centers.”
He continued, “Families should not be faced with uncertainty this holiday season when it comes to ensuring their children have adequate access to care. I urge the Senate to quickly to pass this legislation and send it to President Trump for his signature.”
Upon passage, the bill was referred to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
