PORT ALLEGANY — Port Allegany residents will see a tax increase of 0.4 mills in 2018.
At Monday’s meeting, next year’s budget was approved with a tax increase. The general tax rate for borough purposes is 6.17 mills. Other purposes are street lighting (.47 mills), fire protection (1 mill), ambulance (.834 mills), and the library (.365) for a total tax rate of 8.83 mills for all borough purposes.
It was also voted that there will be a 10 percent penalty on unpaid taxes. The borough also posted a schedule for the 2018 meetings, which will be held on the first Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. Exceptions include when the first Monday is a holiday, in which case the meeting will be the Tuesday after the first Monday of the month.
The next borough meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 2.
