SMETHPORT — A Bradford man accused of the sexual assault of a 13-year-old was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to a term in state prison.
Paul M. Hensley, 35, will serve a prison term of five to 10 years with credit for 469 days of time served. He will also have to register as a sex offender for his lifetime.
On Nov. 17, 2016, Hensley pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful contact with a minor and statutory sexual assault—11 or more years older, for allegations that on April 29, 2016, Hensley, then 33, had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
President Judge John Pavlock also ordered that Hensley have a mental health evaluation with a focus on sex offender treatment and have no contact, either directly or indirectly, with the victim. The judge said he was not ordering an apology letter to the victim, as he felt it would cause “more emotional harm than benefit.”
Pavlock noted before ordering the sentence that he accepted attorney Christopher Martini’s statement that Hensley, his client, has been a “model prisoner” while he has been incarcerated in lieu of bail.
The judge added, “I do want to note that (Hensley) has an extensive criminal record.”
