Charges against a Bradford woman accused of assaulting another woman, who is pregnant, were bound to McKean County Court Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Amber L. Harris, 21, of 187 W. Washington St., is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault of an unborn child, both first-degree felonies, and simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to court records, at 1:22 p.m. Nov. 2, Bradford City Police were dispatched to 187 W. Washington for a report that a pregnant woman was assaulted. The alleged victim, who was not identified in the criminal complaint, had accompanied another person to the address to pick up some belongings.
When they arrived, Harris allegedly started screaming at them, telling them they needed to get out of the house. The pregnant woman, who was “in the later stages of pregnancy,” went to the front door and asked Harris if it was ok if she waited there, and Harris kicked her in the stomach, court records stated.
The pregnant woman was transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center by ambulance and taken to the OB-GYN maternity floor for evaluation and treatment of any injuries to her or her unborn child, according to court records.
Harris remains jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Bradford man waives hearing on assault charges
A Bradford man who is facing allegations that he tried to hit a woman with a vehicle waived a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Jeremy D. Wertz, 29, of 266 Bolivar Drive, had been scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone. Wertz is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one a first-degree felony and the other a second-degree felony; criminal mischief, a third-degree felony; two counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, both second-degree misdemeanors; and summary charges, harassment, disorderly conduct, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to use a safety belt.
According to court records, at 11:55 p.m. Nov. 7, Wertz was in an argument with Ashley Krouse at 43 Forman St. When he went to pull away from the address in his pickup truck, he allegedly accelerated in the direction of Krouse; she was pulled out of the path of the truck by a witness.
Wertz stopped his truck near the intersection of Forman and Kennedy streets and “entered into a physical altercation” with John Wilber Krouse — Ashley Krouse’s father — and the police were called, court records stated.
Officer Matthew Gustin positioned a Bradford City Police vehicle with the emergency lights on ahead of Wertz’s truck to prevent him from leaving the scene, but Wertz continued driving, striking the passenger side of the vehicle Gustin was operating, damaging it.
Court records did not indicate whether anyone was injured during the alleged incident.
Wertz is free, having posted $30,000 bail.
