DUKE CENTER — Otto-Eldred senior Camryn Thomas broke the 1,000-point barrier in the Lady Terrors’ 64-46 North Tier League victory over Galeton on Monday night.
“Camryn is a well-rounded, goal-oriented athlete,” O-E coach Barb Close said. “I would honestly describe Camryn as a gentle giant. She leads her team with her tenacious spirit and athletic ability. Hitting her 1000th point will be another accolade to her collection of athletic honors. It’s been a honor to me to be coaching such a talented group of team-minded young ladies.”
Thomas scored a team-high 27 points and six rebounds to help O-E improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. Ali Cousins also chipped in with 14 points, five steals, and three assists in the contest.
Galeton fell short despite a terrific outing from Makaya Shadle, who scored a game-high 28 points including making four 3-pointers.
In the end, however, O-E’s numbers proved to be too much for the Lady Tigers to overcome.
Otto-Eldred will travel to Austin on Wednesday.
Northern Potter 44, Smethport 37
SMETHPORT — The Lady Panthers were able to come out on top in a defensive battle to emerge victorious on Monday.
Kailey Cowburn led the way with a game-high 21 points including three 3-pointers, while Mikayla Lewis added another 10.
Abbey Woodard led Smethport with 19 points.
“Both teams played hard,” Lady Hubbers coach Eric Lutz said. “It was a scrappy game. I’m not sure if it was good defense or cold shooting for both teams early on, but it could’ve gone either way.”
Northern Potter pulled away late as Cowburn scored 17 points in the second half.
“We seemed to forget our responsibilities a couple times out there,” Lutz said. “Overall it was a good game.”
Smethport (1-3 overall, 1-1 in NTL play) will host Sheffield on Wednesday.
Cameron County 50, Oswayo Valley 27
