KANE –– Investigation continues into a fire that destroyed a garage in Foster Township, while fire that damaged a trailer in Lewis Run has been ruled accidental.
In a report issued by Kane-based state police, the state police marshal and the Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department investigated the origin of a fire that destroyed a wood-framed garage at 123 McFadden Road in Foster Township at 3:46 p.m. Thursday.
About 40 firefighters from across Pennsylvania and New York state battled the blaze for about three-and-a-half hours, according to Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jim Kelley.
Frozen hydrants prompted firefighters to bring in tankers from Eldred Borough, Otto Township, Rew and Town of Olean, N.Y., and Knapp Creek, N.Y. Other firefighters responding included Bradford Township and Limestone, N.Y.
The damage to the building and contents are estimated at $100,000, police said. No one was injured in the blaze, according to police.
The owner is listed as James E. Heckel of Derrick City.
Meanwhile, the fire marshal and Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dan Burkhouse investigated a blaze that damaged a single-wide mobile home at 33 Main St. at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The fire originated under the home and was determined to be accidental in nature, police said.
Firefighters were on scene for about two-and-a-half hours. Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene of the blaze by Bradford Township.
The damage is estimated at $12,500. No one was injured, according to police.
The victim is listed as Elizabeth M. Bailey.
