GALETON — A fourth-quarter rally buoyed by some great defense allowed the Smethport girls to defeat Galeton 51-47 in a North Tier League matchup on Wednesday night.
The Lady Hubbers (1-2) were led by Abbey Woodard’s 22 points while also getting key secondary scoring from some of their underclassmen.
“It was a great team win,” Smethport coach Eric Lutz said. “Our sophomores Mykayla Deyarmin (8)and Erin Herzog (10) combined for 18 points, so that was a big boost for us. I like the way they’re progressing.
“I thought our fourth quarter defense was outstanding. We held (Makaya) Shadle scoreless in the fourth and they only scored six points total.”
Shadle was the Lady Tigers’ (2-1) leading scorer with 18 points in the contest.
Smethport will be off until Monday when the Hubbers host Northern Potter in an NTL contest.
Oswayo Valley 53, Archbishop Walsh (N.Y.) 42
OLEAN, N.Y. — Oswayo Valley improved to 3-0 on the season thanks to a 19-point performance from Shayla Bickel.
Karina West and McKenzie Gross both added 10 points for the Lady Green Wave.
Grace Greer delivered 29 points, nine rebounds and six steals for Archbishop Walsh.
Oswayo Valley will be competing at the Randy Stebbins Memorial Tournament at Otto-Eldred on Friday and Saturday.
Brockway 50, Cameron County 46
EMPORIUM — The Red Raiders hit seven three-pointers, but fell to Brockway (3-0) in non-league play on Wednesday night.
Amily Schatz dominated in the paint, grabbing 14 rebounds and added five points for Cameron County. Laila Smith and Alyvia McKimm led the scoring for the Raiders for 12 points each. Kaitlyn Morelli led all scorers with 16 points for Brockway.
Cameron County fell to 0-2 with the loss and travels next to Johnsonburg on Friday.
