Cell phone reception is a bit better throughout Potter County –– at least for those using AT&T’s network.
An AT&T cell phone tower has been installed in Galeton, providing service around the intersection of routes 6 and 144 in Galeton, telecommunication officials announced earlier this week. In late November, AT&T turned on the site in Galeton and in June activated a site in Coudersport, said Ellen Webner, a spokesperson at AT&T.
“We want our customers to have a great experience. They’ll be able to download, upload, stream and play games faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network…,” said J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid Atlantic. “We’re always working to provide better coverage. And we’re investing in our wireless network to accomplish that.”
State Sen. Joe Scarnati, R-Brockway, said he is grateful that AT&T is making this investment in rural Pennsylvania.
“Our residents, businesses and visitors rely on mobile broadband more each day to stay connected to family and friends, start or grow a business, receive news updates, and share pictures of some of the most amazing landscapes anywhere,” he said.
Schweder said the Galeton site –– and others in Tioga County –– are among 47 sites AT&T put online this year, and they are part of 384 upgrades made throughout Pennsylvania thus far in 2017. From 2014-16, the company has invested more than $800 million in its networks in Pennsylvania.
AT&T is continuously investing in its network to provide customers with the high-quality services needed to remain connected, Schweder said.
“This helps Pennsylvanians and those who visit our state have the best possible experience over the AT&T network,” he said.
In addition expanding its 4G LTE network, officials said the company is laying the groundwork for the 5G Evolution, the next advance in network technologies.
“These new cell sites are part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to continually expand and enhance the wireless network throughout the region so more consumers and small businesses are connected and at faster speeds,” Webner said.
