Bradford Little Theatre show director and board president Kristin Asinger and musical director John Kearns invite all adult comedic actors and singers to audition for “JAWS the Musical.”
This musical comedy was written by Kyle McCoy and is full of hilarious songs and ridiculous moments.
Auditions will be held this today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday morning 9 a.m. to noon at Togi’s Playhouse, 18 Welch Ave in Bradford. Auditions are open to anyone 18 years of age and older. During auditions, participants may be asked to read lines from the script, sing part of a song from the musical, learn a short choreographed routine, and participate in acting scenarios. Rehearsals will begin in January.
“This show is back by popular demand. As soon as our 2014 production of this show ended, people were asking us when we would offer it again. Several thought it was so hilarious, they returned the next night to see it again,” explained Asinger.
“This will be my fourth time working with BLT and my second time as a musical director, and I have noticed a ton of hidden talent right here in Bradford,” Kearns said.
This musical follows a similar storyline as the 1975 movie JAWS but adds several whimsical songs including “You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat,” “Chrissie’s Last Swim,” “This is What Happens,” and “Summer Dollars.”
“The score is the perfect compliment to the script. They together perfectly honor and spoof the 1975 movie,” Kearns said.
Martin Brody is the new Chief of Police on Amity Island. He and his family left New York City for a more relaxed life where “no one ever gets hurt or dies” until there is a report of a missing girl at the beach. Brody and his supporters, including the town deputy, his wife Ellen and shark scientist Matt Hooper all want to close down the beach. They find themselves up against Mayor Vaughn, his “mayorettes” and several islanders who rely on Amity Island’s beach to remain open in order to keep those “summer dollars” rolling in. Enter Quint, the rugged fisherman who has no fear and takes Brody and Hooper out to sea to kill the shark.
There are up to 15 roles for men and women available, though some doubling is possible if needed. There are roles for various abilities and time commitments as well.
“We’re looking for adults of all voice ranges and experience. If this is your first show or your next show, I encourage you to come and try out,” Kearns said.
This one-act dinner theatre show will be performed at the Limestone Fireman’s Community Center on Feb. 9 and 10, and will start off the evening with the firemen’s famous fish fry dinner as well as fundraising activities for the firemen and Bradford Little Theatre.
