Organist Allan Slovenkay will be featured at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Eighth Annual Advent and Christmas Organ Recital from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 15.
The event will take place in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel and is free and open to the public.
The recital will open with the J.S. Bach’s “In Dulci Jubilo,” a traditional organ postlude frequently included in Lessons and Carols services. Slovenkay will also perform seasonal music by Daquin, Buxtehude, and other composers. The recital will close with “Te Deum,” composed by French organist Jean Langlais.
He will play the Sarah B. Dorn Pipe Organ, which has more than 1,000 pipes and was custom built for the chapel.
Slovenkay is no stranger to Bradford audiences since he held a faculty appointment and college organist position at Pitt-Bradford from 1971 to 1994, during which time he founded the UPB College Community Choir. He also served as the organist for the dedicatory recital of the Sarah B. Dorn organ in 2010.
Slovenkay is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University, where he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Widely known for his recitals, he is organist and choirmaster emeritus at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church in Warren, where he served for 33 years.
Currently he lives in Erie and has performed at a variety of venues such as Penn State Behrend, Mercyhurst University, Penn State Erie, the Cathedral of St. Paul and St. Peter Cathedral, both in Erie.
