OLEAN, N.Y. — Cutco Cutlery received from timely pre-holiday publicity Tuesday evening when it was featured in a segment of ABC News’ “Made in America” with anchor David Muir.
The segment highlighted different elements of a Thanksgiving dinner — where it comes from and how it’s made — including Cutco implements used in the kitchen.
“This Thanksgiving, I will be using my Cutco knives to prepare all of the vegetables that we need for dinner,” said Rachel Hutchens of Leigh, Utah.
“I also love the spatula spreader for frosting and serving our Thanksgiving desserts,” said Erin Birch of Orchard, N.Y.
“Cutco knives, a company of about 500 factory workers in Olean, N.Y., told ABC News that it is hiring and that the average year of service for its workers was 18 years,” the segment noted, while including video of Cutco employees displaying a “Made in America” banner.
Kathleen Donovan, senior social media and public relations coordinator at Cutco, said the appearance on “ABC World News Tonight with David Muir” was “really a lot about luck.”
“I received an email from them asking if they could include Cutco in a story for Thanksgiving as part of their regular made in America segment. Of course, we immediately said yes and we’re very excited about being part of the program,” she said.
Originally ABC News was going to send a production crew to the headquarters in Olean, but due to a scheduling conflict they were not able to make it.
“However, they did send us their signature ‘Made in America’ banner and had us video our employees holding it, shouting ‘made in America,’” Donovan said. “The producer also asked if we could find some customers to record their own videos about how they’re using their Cutco for Thanksgiving. We have some amazing customers and when we reached out to them, they didn’t hesitate to help and share some wonderful videos with ABC.”
The segment can be viewed on ABC News’ website.
“Cutco is very proud of its American manufacturing, and proud to be part of this community,” Donovan added. “We were honored and excited that ABC chose to include us in their broadcast. Not only was it great for our us, it was great for Olean, too.”
