PLOWS: We thought this contest in nearby Forest and Warren counties was great.
High school students in the counties were asked to paint illustrations on snow plows that would be used by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
This one by Sheffield High School students of the school mascot won the “Fan Favorite” award.
“During the winter season, the blade, as well as those painted by Warren, Eisenhower, Youngsville and East Forest high school students, will be used to maintain state-owned roadways in Warren and Forest counties,” according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which announced the winners this week.
“‘Paint the Plow’ is a joint effort of PennDOT and area high school art programs,” PennDOT stated. “Students are invited to paint a plow blade with an original design based on a regional theme. The theme for the Warren-Forest program was school mascots.”
We just liked the thought of these being taken to the streets to clear our winter roads. What a sight.
TAKE-BACK PROGRAM: These numbers boggled our mind.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration announced earlier this month what it collected during its most recent National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Americans across the nation brought “a record-setting 912,305 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs,” the DEA reported.
Since the fall of 2010, the DEA has collected 9,015,668 pounds, or 4,508 tons.
We’d like to know how many pills it would take to make up more than 9 million pounds — and what that pile would look like.
