SMETHPORT (EC) — Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Church of Smethport celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at a family dinner Nov. 12.
Church and the former Edna Covert, daughter of Naomi “Happy” and Ed Covert of Gifford, were married on Nov. 14, 1947, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Farmers Valley. The Rev. Chase officiated.
The couple has four children, Ethyl (Wayne) Schmidt of Hazel Hurst; Myra (Keath) Smith of Smethport; Sandra (Jim) Lasher of Eldred; and Cynthia (Robert) Bowen of Kuna, Idaho.
They also have six grand-children and four great-grandchildren.
Blessed with musical talent, Edna on the accordion, and Glenn on the bass, the couple were well-known in musical circles for 60 years, as they performed both locally and nationally.
Glenn Church retired from the Everett, Washington, School District in 1985. Previously, he had been employed in the local oil fields, electronics industry and Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y.
Edna Church was a housewife. They are members of the Hilltop Baptist Church in Gifford. The couple enjoys reading and working puzzles.
