Bradford’s Office of Economic and Community Development executive director responded to claims of a big problem with a city-purchased home now owned by a local dentist.
Dr. Albert Sohnen, who lives at 44 Elm St., spoke before city council Tuesday, expressing concerns with the home, including concrete, between the garage and home, being allegedly laid incorrectly.
“We have addressed a number of warranty concerns brought up by Dr. Sohnen over the past 10 months and have even fixed some issues created by the homeowner that were not warranty related,” Sara Andrews told The Era on Wednesday. “We have been investigating Dr. Sohnen’s assumptions concerning the condition of the patio and the future effect it may have on the foundation.”
Sohnen said that during periods of rain, water puddles in that area. He moved into the home in January after purchasing it from the OECD, and at Tuesday’s meeting, he questioned the one-year warranty on the house.
“We are consulting with other concrete contractors and suppliers along with an environmental consultant on the discoloring of the concrete in one area,” Andrews said. “Once we have come to a conclusion as to whether this is a warranty issue or not, we will inform Dr. Sohnen of our decision.”
Officials have constructed and rehabilitated more than 50 homes in Colonial Heights, Onofrio Street, the Project Pride Neighborhood and now in the Second Ward Neighborhood Revitalization Area, she said.
“We have always stood by the construction of these homes and honored legitimate warranty items related to the construction and will continue to do so in the future as we strive to improve the quality of the city’s housing stock and improve its housing tax base,” Andrews said.
Also during the meeting, Mayor Tom Riel told Sohnen that the problem would be addressed.
