SMETHPORT — The McKean County commissioners voted Tuesday to terminate the current inmate telephone system at the jail and search for a new provider.
Sheriff Dan Woods said he has received several proposals for a new system, which he has submitted to the commissioners, who will make the final decision after a review by solicitor Dan Hartle.
“It’s not a bid item,” Woods said. “The current system has been in use since 2009. It’s time for an upgrade.”
Commissioners approved various invoices during the brief meeting. Three represented payments for the respective municipalities’ completed Liquid Fuels projects in 2017. They were $5,752 for Annin Township, $10,703 for Foster Township and $1,241 for Lewis Run Borough.
A fourth invoice to be approved was in the amount of $6,250 for the Office of Human Services, representing that agency’s first-quarter budget allotment for fiscal year 2017-18.
In another vote, commissioners approved Sergeant Township’s county aid application for $1,067.
