ST. MARYS — The fall business meeting of Women Who Care (WWC) was held Oct. 12 at the Laurel Mill Golf Club, where the membership awarded $25,000 to eight local non-profit organizations.
Recipients are Guardian Angel Center, $5,000 for a Back to School project; Life and Independence for Today (LIFT), $3,000 for Project Lifesaver; 4-H STEM Camp, $5,000; Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys, $1,600 for a Photography Club; Civil Air Patrol, $500 for a computer; Ruling Our Experiences, $1,500 for the Girls’ Empowerment Program; Tri-County Rails to Trails, $5,000 for trail refurbishment; and Work Force Solutions and Manufacturing Education and Employment Advancement Inc. (MEEA), $3,400 for a Workforce Sustainability Study.
The grant money was donated by more than 200 area women who are members of Women Who Care, a philanthropic giving project of the Elk County Community Foundation (ECCF).
WWC has granted a total of $156,200 to community organizations since its inception in 2009. With a goal to provide grants to local charitable organizations, women make an annual minimum contribution ranging from $100 to $1,000. Their donation entitles them to a vote on what agencies will receive the dollars, as well as provides them the opportunity to enjoy two social events each year.
