BLAIRSVILLE — A pair of Bradford High golfers turned in strong performances at the Western Regional Qualifier at Tom’s Run Golf Course Monday.
Sophomore Elyse Goddings shot an 88 to finish eighth on the girls’ side. Lauren Freybogel of North Allegheny paced the field with a 74.
A two-time District 9 champion, Godding shot a 50 on the front nine, but carded a 38 on the back nine to finish strong.
“She struggled a little bit with the wind early in the day,” BHS coach Judy Abbey said of Godding. “She just missed a couple of putts and a couple of chips that would have given her a better look at the hole.
“This is the second time she’s been (to the Western Regional Qualifier). It’s not like she’s a stranger to the competition, but she is going against juniors and seniors, and I’m very proud of her.”
Brice Whalen carded an 84 to finish 17th among 20 competitors on the boys’ side.
“He had a great senior season,” coach Travis Faulkner said. “He ran into trouble on the front nine and finished with a 3-under 39 on the back nine. He had a great career for us, and he’ll be missed next year.”
