HARRISBURG — A much-needed improvement project that includes paving, bridge preservation and drainage upgrades in Cameron County will get underway next week, the Gov. Tom Wolf administration announced on Thursday.
The project will address almost 7 miles of roadway along Route 155 in Shippen and Portage townships, stretching from Emporium to the Potter County line. The work occurring this year and next year will allow a 10-ton weight limit along Route 155 to be removed, and rehabilitate five structurally deficient bridges.
“This area attracts many visitors for elk viewing, star-gazing, outdoor activities, and special events, so these improvements will improve travel and support regional tourism,” Wolf said in a prepared statement. “This project will also upgrade the affected road and bridges, which helps ease regional goods movement.”
Through November, project work will focus on drainage improvements, and officials say that drivers should expect daytime lane restrictions and alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers.
Road improvements, structure repairs, super structure replacements, a box culvert installation, and shoulder widening will take place in 2018.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College will be the contractor on this $8.8 million project.
