HAZEL HURST — The Hazel Hurst United Methodist Church will celebrate recent upgrades to the church in a rededication service at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Former parishioners and friends are welcome to come and share in this special event, followed by a soup and sandwich lunch.
It was 50 years ago this past July that the original church had burned to the ground shortly after major construction had been completed. In December 1967, the congregation purchased the former Catholic church and added Sunday school rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a dining room.
There were several years that the survival of the church was doubtful. Now, under the leadership of the Rev. Craig Smith, the little church has thrived.
During those slow times, many things fell into disrepair. The past months have seen many upgrades, and this service will be one of praise and thanksgiving.
