The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will show the documentary “Lives worth Living” at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Mukaiyama University Room in the Frame-Westerberg Commons, as part of Disability Awareness Month.
The film details how those with disabilities advocated for rights for those with disabilities. Their efforts eventually led to the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities.
“Using archival footage and stories from those with disabilities allows viewers to understand the need for the hard-fought set of civil rights affirming that discrimination will not be tolerated in our society,” said Carma Horner, disability resources and services coordinator at Pitt-Bradford.
After the film, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation will give a presentation about disability etiquette and people with disabilities seeking employment. A question-and- answer period will follow. Refreshments will be served.
