Two Bradford organizations are pairing up to sponsor a coat giveaway to be held later this month, and residents are asked to help.
The First Baptist Church and Destinations-Bradford are co-sponsoring the Winter Warm Up Coat Giveaway, and the church will host the community sharing event Oct. 21.
Residents are being asked to clean out their closets and donate gently used winter wear such as hats, coats, scarves, mittens and gloves. Items will be collected until Oct. 19.
Several places have volunteered to serve as collection sites until that time. People can drop off their warm gear at Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce, 121 Main St.; Northwest Bank, 33 Main St.; Destinations-Bradford, 1 Main St.; and First Baptist Church, 71 Congress St.
The groups anticipate they will have mostly adult sizes, but some child sizes, too.
The Winter Warm Up Coat Giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, and attendees are invited to enter through the handicap entrance off Elm Street.
Hot cocoa and cookies will be served, too.
Everyone knows that Bradford’s cold weather is just around the corner.
However, after waking up to some chilly mornings early this week, Bradford area residents will experience more mild fall weather for the next few days.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, the daytime high is expected to reach between 71 and 73 degrees every day through Tuesday, and nighttime lows will be in the 50s.
No doubt those hats and coats will come in handy soon.
