PORT ALLEGANY — At Monday’s meeting, Port Allegany Borough Council announced a few Fridays will be selected to close the borough office.
“We need the time to come in to clean out all our old documents and shred the ones we don’t need anymore. We still have (paperwork for) the purchase of a dump truck from 30 or so years ago,” explained Borough Manager Bob Veilleux.
During the meeting the borough also decided on an option to fix their roof. After several months of looking into different bids, the borough decided to go with a metal roof. This metal roof, provided by Gingerich Construction, is guaranteed for 50 years and will cost approximately $18,414.00. Construction is planned to be done before the weather turns.
National Fire Prevention Week will be held Oct. 8 through 13, and Andrew Johnson of Star Hose Company involved people to attend an open house on Oct. 12.
Also at the meeting, council approved the closing of Maple Street for the Halloween Trunk or Treat and approved the time for the town wide trick-or-treating on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Also, the Port Allegany National Honor Society was given the go-ahead for Blessing Boxes to be put in the community. These boxes will allow those in need another option to get non-perishable food items.
Council’s next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.
