PAYPHONE: We have at least one payphone in the area still:
A reader contacted us Monday to let us know, “There is one that I know of at Willow Bay in the boat trailer parking lot.”
Anyone who spends time at the Allegheny Reservoir knows that cell signal is sketchy at best out there, so it’s good to know
PRINCESS BRIDE: Inconceivable.
The Rob Reiner film “Princess Bride” turns 30 this year.
The film was released on Sept. 25, 1987, and to celebrate, there will be a release to limited theaters this month. We don’t believe the film will be making its way to Bradford — you’d have to drive to Erie or Buffalo, N.Y., to see it on the big screen.
COPS & COFFEE:Wednesday is National Coffee with a Cop Day.
As a website dedicated to the celebration explains, “Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together — over coffee — to discuss issues and learn more about each other.”
More importantly, the day provides a chance “to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve.”
The program began in 2011 in Hawthorne, Calif. Officers there wanted to find a way to build trust and connect with the community.
With so many people seemingly taking sides for or against the law enforcement community, we like to hear about any efforts between one human being and another human being to connect on a personal level.
According to the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), last year was the inaugural celebration of the day on a national level. The COPS Office partners with the Hawthorne police to promote the event.
While we don’t know of any organized events locally, that doesn’t mean a cop and a citizen can’t sit down together for random chat on Wednesday. Ask each other questions. Connect as people.
