For nearly eight years, Chris Lucco has served as the chief of the City of Bradford Police Department. Now he’ll also be overseeing the city’s purchasing and personnel.
On Tuesday, Bradford City Council appointed Lucco to the director position for a trial period of six months, from Sept. 27 to March 27. The position will be part-time at $28.84 an hour.
The extra duties will amount to 10 to 12 extra hours a week working under city administrator Teri Cannon. He will continue to work 40-plus with the police department. His salary as police chief is $68,390.42, according to a previous Era story.
“Council approached me, asking if I would be interested,” Lucco said, adding that officials felt he had a good handle on personnel and expenditures.
Mayor Tom Riel praised Lucco, saying he does well with managing the police department’s spending plan and is frugal with expenditures.
Lucco picked up some of the work following the firing earlier this year of Michael Shanks, who served as the chief financial officer since August 2013. Lucco said he is hoping that the added duties would lighten the load for some city employees.
He has been with the department for 20 years, and he became the chief in April 2010.
