Elyse Godding and Kate Huber accomplished something Thursday that hadn’t happened in Judy Abbey’s previous 10 years as head coach.
With Godding’s medalist round of a 36 and Huber carding a 39, the two became the first pair of Lady Owls (9-0) golfers to both score rounds in the 30s during the same match.
“I’ve never have had two girls shooting 30s in the same match,” Abbey said. “It’s perfect timing because of districts and league championships coming up.”
Godding continued her strong season as she carded a par score at Pine Acres in the tri-match with Port Allegany and Cameron County. The Lady Owls won both matches.
“It’s impressive for Elyse to shoot even par,” Abbey said, noting the sophomore had three birdies and three bogies. “She’s very focused and had it going today. I was very impressed with her consistency and long game. She has been striving to shoot par at any course and did it [Wednesday] as well as [Thursday].”
Huber was right behind with her 39.
“Kate Huber’s 39 was very impressive,” Abbey said. “She also shot a 39 [Wednesday]. I cannot ask for any more from my top golfers to shoot 30s.”
Andrian Angell was next in line with a 55 for the Lady Owls, while Sophia Oliver and Emily Keltz both shot 56s.
“Adrian Angell has had a few tough runs but came through today with a 55, which is very good,” Abbey said.
The Lady Owls return to the course with a home matches on Monday against Cameron County and Tuesday against Kane.
