KANE — The Kane Wolves (4-0) kicked their game into high gear, scoring on all of their first half possessions enroute to a 63-0 final in a crossover AML game Friday night against Cameron County (0-4).
The three-pronged attack of Erik DeLong, who scored three rushing touchdowns of six, seven, and five yards, Ange Costanzo, scoring on runs of six and 16 yards, and the throwing combination of Reed Williams to Ray Maze for touchdown passes of eight and 36 yards accounted for seven touchdowns for the Wolves.
“We played a balanced football game tonight” Kane head coach Todd Silfies remarked. “We ran the ball well and Reed (Williams) was his usual sharp self.”
Kane finished the first half scoring on a Jake Alcorn seven-yard run. Alcorn also accounted for a two-point conversion with a three-yard run. Kane lead 56-0 at the half.
Cameron County fumbled the opening kickoff at their own 13-yard line where Alcorn swept to the left for the touchdown just 55 seconds into the second half. Aaron Hottel added the extra point for the final score of the game.
Cameron County picked up three first downs on its best drive of the night after Kane fumbled on the Cameron County one-yard line. The Red Raiders’ drive stalled out after picking up three first downs behind the running of quarterback Adam Streich and Jared Whiting.
Both teams emptied the benches in the fourth quarter with Wolves freshman Bobby Rumcik running for a 48-yard gain only to have the Wolves turn the ball over. Aiden Quinn from Kane finished the game with an interception of Cameron County’s freshman quarterback Caden Beldin.
After the game coach Silfies was pleased with the younger kids’ play.
“They took some hits tonight and I think they responded very well,” he said. “I thought in particular Dominic Cartwright played a good game. Obviously we know that next week we play a tough Curwensville team and we will prepare for them. We know they can run the ball and and I think our guys are pumped up for the challenge”.
As for Red Raiders head coach Scott Burnside, “We have to get better at tackling,” he said. “We didn’t do a good job of that tonight. I told the kids after the game that now we can start over with the North division teams. We scrimmaged Brockway and played with them and stayed with Curwensville but tonight we were just flat. We had no energy. Also hats off to Kane – they are a very good football team and are well-coached. Now we will prepare for Smethport and if we get fired up, we can make some noise in the North.”
Kane will host Curwensville on Friday night in Kane. It will be Kane’s homecoming, while Cameron County will host Smethport.
