The Frances Sherman VFW Auxiliary will be hosting the Scavenger Ride Benefit, an annual benefit with the goal to raise funds for the VFW, on Saturday.
With the donations, the local VFW are able to help support local veterans and their families.
On the 7th year of ride, Val Meacham, one of the organizers of the event, hopes to see fairer weather than in previous years.
“We’ll be riding rain or shine, but we expect sunny weather on Saturday,” Meacham said. “But can’t rely too much on the forecast in Bradford.”
New this year, instead of dice rolls at each stop there will be a scavenger hunt, finding items along the way and at each checkpoint.
“Hopefully the scenic route doesn’t distract the riders too much that they miss what they’re scavenging for,” Meacham said.
While there isn’t a set donation or participation goal, Meacham hopes that they can at the very least match last year’s numbers.
“Last year, we had about 50 people and made almost $600 in donations,” Meacham said. “The more people participate, the more we can help out local veterans.”
The ride begins and ends at VFW Post 212 at 94 Barbour St. Registration is 11 to 11:45 a.m. with free sweets and coffee, followed by blessing of the bikes and a noon departure. The route and stops will be in Pennsylvania only. All bikes and street legal vehicles are welcome; $10 per person includes auxiliary buffet after the run, open jukebox from 4 to 6 p.m. and prizes.
All information and rules will be available at registration. Items found are points towards prizes at the end of the run.
