NICE FACADE: Businesses and organizations along Pennsylvania’s U.S. Route 6 will have the chance to get help making visual improvements to their storefronts.
PA Route 6 Alliance and the PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship are launching a regional facade program, which will be open to businesses and nonprofits in the Pennsylvania Wilds region.
“Eligible types of restoration activities include design assistance, a fresh coat of paint, new signage and repairing or replacing an awning,” according to the alliance.
The program will fund about 32 projects, said Terri Dennison of the alliance. Each will receive a maximum of $5,000, and there is a required one-to-one match of funds. In addition to those grants, smaller signage grants will be available to 50 places involved with The Wilds Cooperative.
There will be several public informational meetings, including one at 10 a.m. Sept. 20 in the Gunzburger Building in Coudersport, and another at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the McKean County 911 Center in Smethport.
To register, contact the alliance at 814-435-7706.
LUMBER: Want to learn more about the 15-county lumber region of North Central Pennsylvania?
Now’s your chance: the Lumber Heritage Region just launched a new website, LumberHeritage.org. Its region includes Cameron, Elk, McKean and Potter counties.
The Lumber Heritage Region encourages history buffs to check out the “Past” section of the website to “see an array of photos that show the danger and beauty of what it meant to be a wood hick back when.” The site also has a “Present” section with current technology and a “Future” section with what’s coming up in the industry.
The Lumber Heritage Region invites people to share their own lumber industry stories or photos or make website suggestions by emailing info@lumberheritage.org.
