The Kinzua Valley Trail Club decided Sept. 23 would be a marvelous night for its annual Moondance.
The Moondance, an annual fundraiser for the club, will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. in the Westline Dance Hall, according to Don Cummins, Kinzua Valley Trail Club president.
On the menu will be food from the Westline Inn, to include a pig roast, desserts and refreshments such as wine and beer. There will be live entertainment, too.
Only 200 tickets will be sold at $35 each.
“Zippo is once again going to be helping with the event,” Cummins added, noting the company will bring the Zippo Jeep, as well as Zippo products including its line of outdoor products.
A bicycle donated by Just Riding Along will be given away, too.
The club also invites other sponsors to take part.
Cummins said the event also serves as a thank you for the many people who assist the club every year including the volunteers, the board, the sponsors and everyone who helps to maintain and build the trail.
“Thisi s a first-class trail. This is one of the nicest trails in the area; the scenery is beautiful in every season.”
“It’s our main fundraiser for the year to help maintain and extend the trail,” Cummins explained.
The current goal for the club is to extend the trail toward U.S. Route 219.
“We’ll have a trailhead right at Route 219,” he noted. “This fall, we’ll be working on extending it to Camp Run Road.”
This fall, work on the three-mile extension will include culverts and ditching, Cummins said.
“Then, next year we should be able to complete that all the way to 219,” he added.
According to Cummins, the trail is good for hikers of different skill levels, as it is an “easy grade.” He explained, “It’s flat most of the way.”
The ultimate goal will be to take the trail all the way to Kinzua Bridge State Park.
“Our trail now runs from Red Bridge all the way to Westline. We did extend that last year,” said Cummins, noting that the trail is now seven miles. “Once we get to 219, that will be over 11 miles. That will be half of our way to get to Kinzua Bridge State Park.”
The completed trail from Red Bridge to Kinzua Bridge will be about 22 miles, he said.
