Charges against a Bradford man accused in two separate criminal cases were bound to McKean County Court Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Kenneth R.F. Bell, 21, of 174 Elm St., Apt. 1, remains in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 for the two cases.
According to court records, on May 5, Bell punched his mother’s husband in the head; then, when he fell on the bed, Bell punched him in the head several more times. Bell left before police arrived.
Then, at 5:57 p.m. July 23, Bradford City Police responded to a report that Bell, who had an active arrest warrant, was spotted walking with a female in Bradford.
An officer found Bell walking with the juvenile female toward Barbour Street, but when the pair spotted the patrol vehicle, they allegedly turned and started walking toward West Washington Street instead. The officer first yelled to them to stop walking — a request which was ignored — then he stopped, got out of the car and told them to stop.
Bell dropped a backpack he was carrying and ignored a request to provide his name to the officer, court records stated. The officer told Bell to put his hands behind his back, and he was able to take control of Bell.
Meanwhile, the juvenile female allegedly picked up the backpack and walked away, ignoring requests by the officer that she stop; he finished handcuffing Bell and called for another officer, who found and detained the girl, according to court records.
When police searched the backpack, they found 24.1 grams of marijuana, three cigarette packs containing a large amount of cash, a box of sandwich baggies, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia, court records stated.
Bell is charged in one case with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and summary harassment; and he’s charged in the second case with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, both felonies; possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors, according to court records.
Bradford man waives hearing for baseball bat assault
A Bradford man waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on allegations he assaulted someone with a baseball bat.
James R. Graves III, 26, of 117 Oakwood Ave., is charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, both second-degree misdemeanors, court records stated.
According to court records, at 11:24 p.m. Aug. 13, at 117 Rockland Ave., Graves struck a man in the head with a baseball bat, and the man required treatment at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
When police who were investigating the alleged incident found a piece of the broken bat, Graves told them the bat broke when it hit the ground — not during the assault — and he threw part of the broken bat in the river, court records stated.
Graves is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
