Water outages are likely today on Onofrio and North Onofrio streets.
The potential for outages is due to nearby construction work, according to Steve Disney, executive director of the Bradford City Water Authority.
On Tuesday, “We had an unexpected water outage due to construction difficulties experienced during the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s 20-inch main line relocation project,” he said.
Tuesday’s outage affected customers on Onofrio and North Onofrio streets and portions of Marion Avenue and Barbour Street, according to Disney.
“It was caused due to the narrow width of Onofrio Street,” he explained. “A portion of our existing four-inch water main running along Onofrio Street had to be reworked to allow adequate room for the new mainlines to be installed.”
Disney said the potential for an additional water outage is likely today, which will happen if an existing four-inch line has to be relocated. He said the outage could take up to a few hours and noted that workers are going to keep the shutdown time to a minimum.
“Residents in these area are urged to allow their cold water taps to run in order to flush the lines if they are experiencing any discoloration or dirty water,” said Disney.
No water boil advisory is necessary, he said, explaining, “We’ll be able to get a good positive shut-down, just like today” — making boiling unnecessary.
However, some residents might experience discoloration because whenever the system is shut down and turned back on, “The existing water and sediment gets disrupted.”
As far as the relocation project at the university, “That project is about 40-percent complete and is expected to take another three to four weeks,” said Disney.
