SMETHPORT –– Just two weeks into the season, Bradford High’s Kate Huber is playing some of her best golf –– and those are the words of her coach.
Huber shot a score of 40 to take individual medalist honors on Tuesday as the Lady Owls ran their record to a perfect 3-0 with a 37-15 win over Smethport.
“Kate Huber played really really well today,” Bradford High coach Judy Abbey said. “This is her first medalist by herself. She’s playing really well and hit the ball extremely well today and putted really well. Her game is coming around at the perfect time.”
Elyse Godding shot a 43 and, according to Abbey, wasn’t particularly thrilled with her performance.
“She wasn’t happy with the score, but it’s the game of golf,” Abbey said of her sophomore. “She played tough. She played very well and even though she was unhappy with the score, I was happy.”
Seniors Abby Zickefoose and Sophia Oliver both shot 53s to earn a combined 13 points for the Lady Owls in the victory.
“Their scores are coming down and that’s what we need,” Abbey said.
Rounding out the scoring for Bradford High was Adrienne Angell with a 57 to earn five team points
“Angell continues to play steady, and that’s what we need to continue for our five scorers to do well,” Abbey said.
Abbey Woodard led Smethport’s effort with a 52, while Amelia Holohan shot a 58. Willow Lapp rounded out the team scoring with a score of 75.
The Lady Owls return to action on Thursday at Coudersport.
