GALETON — An Ulysses woman is in jail, charged with shooting her boyfriend during an argument Thursday.
Billie Jo Smith, 43, Pleasant Street, is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; possessing an instrument of crime and terroristic threats, first-degree misdemeanor; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary.
According to court records, at 6:46 p.m. Thursday, Ronald Welty called 9-1-1 to say he’d been shot by Smith. He told police the two had been arguing when she pulled a handgun and pointed it at him. The two continued to argue, and the argument became physical.
During a struggle, the gun discharged, grazing Welty’s hand, entering his right thigh and exiting his leg just behind his knee. Welty told police that Smith had pointed at the gun at him earlier and said “I’ll shoot you,” the court records read.
Smith allegedly told police she had the gun in her possession when the fighting ensued, the records read.
Smith was arraigned before District Judge Delores Weiss and remanded to jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Sept. 5 before Weiss.
