BIB: It’s been 73 years since Bradford native Anthony “Bib” DeLucia was killed in action during World War II.
Elmer DeLucia called to remind us that his brother’s plane crashed on Aug. 31, 1944 — Bib’s 24th birthday.
It would be 52 years before Bib’s remains would be found in the mountains of China.
Elmer has worn Bib’s dog tags all week in his brother’s honor, and a mass will be said in his honor on Sunday.
DRAKE DAY: Titusville will celebrate the anniversary of the Drake Well oil strike with “Drake Day—Let’s Rock!” today.
The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Drake Well Museum and Park.
“The theme for this year’s Drake Day event is the origins of oil,” museum officials stated. “Visitors will spend the afternoon discovering dinosaurs, hunting for fossils with a paleontologist, identifying rocks with geologists, participating in hands-on activities, painting rocks, climbing a rock wall and much more.”
Featured at the museum will be performances of Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s “Spinosaurus Encounter!” and musical guest Joe’s Sunroom.
This weekend is also the Austin Dam Show and the Crook Farm Country Fair and Old Time Country Music Festival.
The two-day music and camping festival continues today at Austin Dam Memorial Park with its second day of bands from across Pennsylvania and the Twin Tiers. Each band is covering music by a classic rock singer or band.
Today also marks the day historical Crook Farm will open up to visitors to see vendors, crafts, foods and musicians from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday. This year, a storyteller will even be on hand, along with a taste of life in historic Bradford.
