A defective coupling that made contact with metal caused billowing smoke from a machine at Luminite Products Corp. in Foster Township late Thursday.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene of a potential fire at the facility around 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
On Friday, Aaron Griffin, operations manager, said no one was injured after the minor incident at 148 Commerce Drive. The plant was evacuated as a precaution, however.
The maintenance department was repairing the equipment Friday, Griffin said. Business operations were not impacted.
Derrick City Fire Chief Jim Kelley did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Luminite moved to the Lafferty Hollow Industrial Park after a fire destroyed its Salamanca, N.Y., facility in 2010.
