A Bradford man was arraigned Tuesday morning on three criminal cases from 2015.
Brandon J. Baribeau, 31, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on complaints filed both at his office and at District Judge Richard Luther’s office. Baribeau was committed to McKean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail, the total for all three cases, court records stated.
The Buffalo News reported earlier this month that Baribeau was arrested Aug. 6 at the Peace Bridge, which crosses over the Niagara River and connects Buffalo, N.Y., to Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada.
According to The Buffalo News, Canadian Border Service Agency agents seized an assault rifle and an ammunition clip from Baribeau after learning he was wanted on a warrant. It was unclear if he will face charges in Canada.
In McKean County, in one case he’s charged with materially false written statement during a sale or transfer of a firearm, a third-degree felony, and statement under penalty, a third-degree misdemeanor; in the second he’s charged with theft of leased property, a first-degree misdemeanor; and in the third he’s charged with theft by unlawful taking, a second-degree misdemeanor, court records stated.
According to court records, at 10:20 a.m. on Feb. 5, 2015, at Allegheny Arsenal, Bradford, Baribeau tried to purchase a Smith & Wesson M&P 40C firearm; however, he provided incorrect information on the Federal Firearms Transaction Form. He allegedly answered “no” — incorrectly — to the question which asked if he had been convicted of a crime for which the judge could have imprisoned him for more than one year.
Then, at 2:46 p.m. April 1, 2015, Bradford City Police responded to a report of theft. The agent of the property Baribeau rented tried to reach him and his girlfriend several times over a 24-hour period about a property inspection with no response, court records stated.
The agent used her key to enter the property for the inspection and found several dishes in the sink that belonged to her and she had been looking for, according to court records. She told police she had asked Baribeau about the dishware several times, but he allegedly denied seeing it.
He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Aug. 31 for all three cases.
