The McKean County Fair has come and gone, with favorable weather blessing the five-day event.
Even though it comes every year, Cecil Gallup, president of the fair association, said he is still overcome with joy knowing that he’s able to help make the event enjoyable for everyone.
“What I really love most of all is seeing the kids having such a great time,” Gallup said. “These will be memories they’ll cherish down the line.”
Attendance may have been higher than last year, according to Gallup, because of the fairer weather during this year’s event.
“We won’t know until everything is all counted up,” he said. “But from what I could see, it was a fully packed event from start to finish.”
Gallup also mentioned that the food pantry had a great turnout, with plenty of food being donated.
As for the event that entertained attendees the most this year, Gallup said, “It was definitely the demolition derby. That really got people excited.”
Maya Ervin, Miss Bradford, was crowned McKean County Fair Queen by the former queen Janelle Housler.
New features included a few new vendors as well as a new building near the front entrance that housed cows.
A representative of Morgan Wallen, the featured musical guest, mentioned that Wallen enjoyed playing the fair, and that “He received a warm welcoming that he will remember.”
Mutts Gone Nuts, a dog obedience and obstacle course performed by some of the country’s top dog trainers, had “a lot viewers and was well received,” according to Gallup. He also noted that the parade went “without a hitch.”
The winner of the beautiful baby contest was Connor Hemphill. The Department of Agriculture Deputy Fred Strathmeyer presented Jim Duffy with the 2017 “Friend of The Fair” award at the opening ceremonies of the fair.
As for next year, Gallup said that “plans are already in store” for the 113th McKean County Fair.
“We meet this week to discuss this year’s event, and the forthcoming event next year,” he said.
