COUDERSPORT — The Bradford boys golf team placed fourth out of 14 teams competing at Thursday’s Coudersport Invitational at the Coudersport Golf Club.
The Owls’ top three of Brice Whelan (85), Joey Frigo (87), and Hunter Fox (89) combined for a score of 261, placing Bradford behind Cowanesque Valley (236), Wellsboro (244), and Kane (260).
“I was very pleased,” coach Travis Faulkner said of his team’s first outing of the season.
“We had some good rounds, some good holes. As a team we made a few mistakes around the green.
“Once our kids start dropping some of the mistakes, we’re going to be doing great,” he added.
Whelan’s team-low round was his first for Bradford in two years, having missed all of 2016 with an injury.
“He was a little rusty,” Faulkner said of Whelan. “He’s still getting back into it. He had some good drives today. I think he didn’t know the course as well as some of the other guys.”
Faulkner was very pleased with the early improvement shown by both Frigo and Fox.
“Those two shooting under 90 was great for us,” he said. “They’ve already improved by around 15 strokes from last year. Getting to know the course better helps.”
Also playing for Bradford were Tommy Anderson (90), Joe Gorse (93), Jared Auteri (104), A.J. Gorse (107), Dan Manion (110), and Shane Peterson (111).
Bradford will be back at it on Monday when it takes its top four to the Bavarian Hills Invitational in St. Marys.
