A Bradford woman has been committed to McKean County Jail for assaulting a police officer who responded to a disturbance outside a convenience store.
Sarah A. Phillips, 30, of 17 Melvin Ave., Bradford, was arraigned before District Judge William Todd on charges of simple assault and resisting arrest, both second-degree misdemeanors; and disorderly conduct and defiant trespassing, both third-degree misdemeanors, court records stated.
According to court records, on Tuesday, Bradford City Police were dispatched to Country Fair at 8 W. Washington St., Bradford, because several people were outside the building and were asked to leave, but refused; an argument ensued.
Officers tried to get people to leave, but Phillips allegedly refused to leave, despite being asked to do so several times. She continued to cause a disturbance, and Sgt. Butch Bartlett told her she was going to be placed under arrest and tried to handcuff her, court records stated.
Phillips was resisting, pulling away from Bartlett, and Officer Clayton Yohe approached to help Bartlett; when he did so, she struck Yohe in the chest with an open hand.
Court records indicated that the two officers, along with Officer Matt Gustin, placed Phillips on the ground face down while she continued to shove them and refused to put her hands behind her back; they were able to handcuff her once she was on the ground.
Bartlett suffered an abrasion on his knee and Gustin suffered an ankle injury during the alleged incident, court records stated.
She was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail, and she is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Aug. 24.
