SMETHPORT — The veterans program at the McKean County Fair will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday with a Vietnam commemoration pinning ceremony.
“It’s a way for us to help honor our Vietnam veterans throughout McKean County,” said Zach Pearson. “We are hoping to get as many Vietnam veterans in attendance as possible. With that being said, we would like as many veterans from all eras in attendance.”
Hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks will be provided.
“There will be two bands to offer entertainment that evening,” Pearson said. “The first band will begin at 6 p.m. and play until 7 p.m. Then the second band will come in and play until 8:30 p.m.”
There will be resources available for veterans as well from McKean County Veterans Affairs office, Erie VA Medical Center, Bradford VA outpatient clinic, World War II Museum, DuBois Vet Center, and Army National Guard.
The Smethport honor guard will be presenting the colors for the evening.
Pearson said, “I will also be handing out free Pirates tickets at the event on a first-come-first-serve basis. This event is completely free to attend and participate in and we hope to have as many people as possible come out and join us.
“We encourage families to tag along as well,” he said. “Rides from the parking lot into the fair will be available for veterans that need it.”
