ELDRED — The Otto-Eldred School Board met for a brief meeting on Tuesday evening to hear updates from administrators and take care of staff shifting to accommodate for class size changes.
The board approved moving Kirsten Perry into a full-time teaching position and also moving Ziva Rios back in a classroom to accommodate for the large influx of students in the third grade. This will make way for three sections for third grade instead of two with Perry, Rios, and Rosenswie as teachers.
Lindsay Burns, assistant principal, requested that Nikki Pavone be placed as a long-term substitute in Kindergarten. The board approved this request. Pavone served as a long-term substitute in the high school last school year.
Various of other substitutes and supplemental positions were approved. Emilie Bruno and Kristie Ramsey were approved to serve as volunteers for the cheerleading program.
A list of bus drivers was presented to be approved, but due to some missing credentials, some names on the list were on hold for approval. The school board asked that all clearances, licenses and necessary documentation be updated before complete approval. It was noted that as soon as the needed information was presented, approval would be granted.
Meanwhile, bids were awarded to Forest County Wood Products for lumber, Meadow Brook Dairy and Schwebel Baking Company for cafeteria products.
The board also approved virtual academy services to be obtained throughout the Intermediate Unit 9 to continue offering online courses to their students.
The issue of delinquent adult lunch accounts in the cafeteria was brought to the board. The board approved the deduction of these debts directly from their salaries.
Assistant principal, Lindsay Burns, update the board on the curriculum meetings that have been held throughout the summer. Burns stated “I’m happy to report that the faculty was willing and eager to plan and expand our ELA and writing curriculums.” Burns and curriculum director, Missy Merry have met with each grade level team to create and expand upon curriculum. Grading expectations were also established for reading and writing.
Burns also noted that the elementary library has been updated and will now house a “Reading Cove” which will be an area for students to sit comfortably and expand their love for reading. In addition, a new elementary career center will be located in the guidance area for students in grades 3rd-6th to gain exposure through career cruising.
Parents and community members are invited to a communitywide pep rally which will be held at the high school football field at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 25 before the start of the first home football game against Brockway.
Other upcoming events include: Pre-K orientation at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17, Kindergarten Camp on Aug. 21-23, and Kindergarten orientation at 6 p.m. on Aug. 23. Seventh grade orientation will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the high school auditorium.
