The Allegheny National Forest has been receiving a number of inquiries regarding the permanent closure of Twin Lakes Campground, which is erroneously being spread throughout the public.
A decision was made to shut down the trailer dump station due to a failure in the lift station that carries waste to the treatment plant. This led to an adjustment in the 2017 operating season for the campground, not a permanent closure.
The original operating season was scheduled to end on Oct. 15. The season will now end on Sept. 5, after which an assessment of the water and wastewater systems will take place.
According to Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon, “There are no current plans to close Twin Lakes to camping. A cost and use assessment will determine the compliance needs and potential costs for the water and wastewater system.
“I want to assure the public that they will be fully involved in any proposals for non-emergency status changes to Twin Lakes Campground,” Fallon said.
