Prosecutors have added an additional charge of theft by deception to a criminal case against a Bradford man.
Curtis D. Howard, 28, of Bradford, appeared for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Richard Luther, who bound all the charges — including the new charge — to McKean County Court.
In addition to theft by deception, Howard is charged with forgery, a second-degree felony; and bad checks, a first-degree misdemeanor, court records stated.
According to court records, Howard passed a check drawn on a fraudulently opened bank account that was opened in his father’s name, Daniel Howard Sr., without the father’s permission. The bank account was also closed.
Court records stated that Curtis Howard gave a $1,347.81 check to The Little Power Shop knowing it would not be honored by the drawee. He allegedly signed his father’s name on the check and received automotive parts and service from the business for his green 2001 Ford F-250.
He remains incarcerated on $35,000 bail.
