GALETON — Arraignment has been set for next month for a Galeton woman accused of stealing money from a purse at a convenience store in the borough.
Bonnie Montgomery, 43, of 5 First St., is charged with theft by unlawful taking, theft of property lost by mistake and receiving stolen property, all first-degree misdemeanors.
According to court records, on Saturday a woman called police and said she had accidentally left her purse at the Nittany Mini Mart on Bridge Street. She called the store, and was told the purse had been turned in. When she went to retrieve it, $224 from missing from her wallet.
Police watched security videos which showed Montgomery, an employee, had taken the money. When questioned by police, she admitted the theft and gave the money to police, court records read. However, police said she showed no remorse, and said “she would not have turned (the money) in on her own,” records read.
She is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 30 before District Judge Delores Weiss in Galeton.
