OLEAN, N.Y. — The Citizens Action Network of Southwestern NY and the Concerned Citizens of Cattaraugus County are sponsoring a film on the recent sharp decline in the global bee population, including its causes and potential consequences for our food supply.
The showing will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at the African American Center for Cultural Development, located at 1803 West State Street in Olean.
The film is free and open to the public, though donations will be accepted.
The film will be followed by comments from three local experts: Dr. Ted Georgian, professor of biology and director of the environmental studies program at St. Bonaventure University; Dr. Denise Piechnik, entomologist and professor of biology at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Pa.; and Dr. Pierre Dionne, a retired physician who now runs Sojourner Farms in Olean, where he also keeps bees. The program will include time for the respondents to answer questions from the audience.
