Children and families will be treated to fun activities, while learning about safety, during the 2017 safety celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the head of Main Street in Bradford.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Kids and Cancer Motorcycle Benefit Run and is open to the public.
Organizers said the area surrounding Veterans Square will be closed to traffic beginning at 10 a.m. to allow for setup. The block party event will celebrate local organizations that help keep the community safe. The activity is excellent for children and families who want to learn more about local heroes and safety information they can provide.
Participants in the event will include the Bradford Family YMCA, McKean County SPCA, City of Bradford Fire Department, McKean County Dive and Rescue, YWCA Bradford and Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Each organization will have a booth located on Marilyn Horne Way. Each booth will have safety information for all ages, hands-on activities or demonstrations, as well as giveaways. Youngsters can tour rescue apparatus including the fire department’s fire truck and ambulance and the McKean County Dive and Rescue vehicle.
Adding to the excitement of the event will be the opportunity to have a front-row seat to watch as hundreds of motorcycles participating in the Kids and Cancer benefit run ride on Main Street. Young participants will be in the prime location to see the bikes travel down South Avenue and turn onto Main Street escorted by a STAT medevac helicopter. The helicopter will also be on display from 11:15 a.m. to noon in the Zippo Manufacturing Co. field on Congress Street.
The party will continue until the motorcycles return beginning at 3 p.m. to Mechanic Street. At that time, the public is invited to participate in benefit run activities that include live music on Mechanic Street.
